The Dilemma: How to Use Your 15 Minute Break Wisely

It’s your first break after a few hours on the phone and you only have 15 minutes!  Oh my! What a dilemma.  You want to just get out of your chair and do more than just stretch.  Are you hungry?  Are you a smoker?  Perhaps you want to check your personal email? Do you have time for a quick game or chat with a friend?  A quick nap would be nice too.  What do you do?

RelaxIt is obvious to say that it is dependent on your current situation.  But, let me give you some suggestions to make sure you feel you’ve used that break wisely.

Eat and Drink
Running out of energy and taking phone calls with a dry throat is a horrible feeling.  You can’t think straight.  You make mistakes often and it screws up your handling time.  So grab a bite at the cafeteria and refill your mug (spill proof please).

Bathroom Break
We know things get crazy on the production floor so that bathroom break is well worth it.  I personally had to go to a doctor and have myself checked and found out it was because I kept on “holding it”.  You don’t need that extra expense.

Silence is Bliss
Go to an area in the center that is really quiet.  If this is the sleeping quarters, then go there.  Close your eyes and breathe.  This is great to quiet your mind for a few minutes before your next couple of calls.  It does wonders to the soul and it decreases your stress level.

I can hear the smokers out there saying, “Smoking is better to relieve the stress.”  Then go ahead and have your own personal list. Whatever it is, just make sure you don’t regret those 15 minutes.

This is a great post! I might expound on this more in one of my blog posts. I hope that's okay. I don't smoke so I don't understand how smoking relieves stress but I agree about going to the bathroom. As simple as that sounds, it is important.

Hi there - sure go ahead and expound please. :-) If you could send the link of your post and link back to this post, that would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with the Eat and Drink thing. It is important for call center agents to have a break and eat because they need more energy so that they won't be in the bad mood. But it's still depends on the call center agents on how they want to spend their 15-minute break.
