Doctors say that playing too many Wii games can cause injury. Information technology analysts say that thousands of hours and millions of dollars are wasted by employees using software on company time that isn't related to their work. Examples: personal email, games, instant messaging, external websites.

Even our supervisors were falling into the same trap. Sometimes when looking for a supervisor who could help a customer or approve a credit, I found every one of them playing with software that created pretty pictures. Sometimes it was hard to drag them away from their computers because the appeal of this software was so powerful. I often saw them staring at their monitors even when they should have been leaving for the day.

The software was Microsoft Excel, and they were beautifying their weekly posting of stats for Quality Assurance.
