
I’ve spent close to six years having to travel to work when the sun has set. I go home when everybody starts their day. This is “reality” for call center personnel working in the Asia Pacific servicing the other side of their current time zone.
It was perfect for me because I’m nocturnal and my brain kicks in at night. But, for most it is a burden especially for those who commute to work. Here are some of the things that we encounter on a daily basis:
Lack of transportation
Though the availability of cabs in the metropolis has increased due to the industry, it depends if you live in an area where you can easily flag one down. Some resort to staying with relatives and go home during the weekend or find an apartment to rent and share it with co-workers.
Robbery
It is still dangerous to travel at night, regardless if you were male or female. With the increase of outsourced business, thieves now have a huge market to target. They know that call center personnel are one of the biggest spenders so they have their personal gadgets and money to spend. Believe it or not, this also means thieves within the centers, which is why security is so tight.
