Exploitation of Filipinos in the Industry

I literally shook my head as I read this in our local papers.  Headline states “KMU slaps call center industry as hub for exploitation”.

“Even as the contact center industry continues to provide jobs to Filipinos, civil rights group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) is accusing the contact center industry of being a “hub for exploitation” and even went blamed the industry for stunting the country’s economic growth."

"KMU Spokesperson Prestoline Suyat said in a statement that Filipino contact center agents are paid much lower wages than their counterparts, pointing to exploitation by multinational firms.”
- INQ7.NET, Alexander Villafania

My thoughts on the matter?

They simply don't understand that this is more of an advantage than it is doing harm.  It has created more jobs and is a solution to a family's financial issue.  The biggest spender these days are call center personnel, which means they can afford products and services, more than was expected years ago.

Yes, the Philippines is a third world country.  True, companies are outsourcing because they see the advantage of saving costs but they've found quality and competent workers to service their customers.

But, if we were to increase the cost of labor and provide more money, then this will only kill the industry and the potential of its growth.  This will then mean the citizens will have nothing.

Enough said.

Well, what can we expect from KMU. They are F*ckin communists, anti-american and anti-imperialism. For them, the contact center industry represents American imperialism which they are totally opposed to. The cheap labor that we offer is the primary reason why they are here and providing us jobs. This cocksucker Prestoline Suyat is Pro-poverty. What kind of jobs does he think he can provide to Filipinos if contact centers are not here? All he does is participate and organize protests. I urge all contact center workers to unite and fight these communists who are against progress and development
