Call Center Blurbs is a blog that I've been maintaining to focus on the human side of the industry. Here is one situation that was emailed to me that I'd like to share to start off this section.
THE SITUATION: "Have you ever resigned from a call center and tried looking for another job BUT you find yourself looking for the same job but another call center?" (edited) - Anonymous
The answer is yes. A lot of my friends and colleagues have jumped from one call center to another. I've heard agents discuss other opportunities and comparing compensation packages and benefits. Due to the negativity and tough work environment, a lot of us tried to get away from it all but has always returned anyway. Why do we go back if it's really stressful?
- MONEY - still very good and nothing comparable to an ordinary industry especially those who are living in a third world country. Getting into an entry level job, with a few more zeroes is definitely tempting.
- COOL ENVIRONMENT - young generation, spending money with friends and it's like college all over again. They come in flocks and they will leave in groups as well. They just love to be together and if one leaves, everybody will follow. There is also the "fun" part and incentives, why wouldn't you want to go back to that?
- A LOT OF OPENINGS - the job is just available out there. You open the weekend paper and you see TONS of ads looking for call center personnel. It never ends. It's always there, anytime you want a job, all you have to do is pick, try it out, if you don't like it, then just move.

Its interesting...I see much the same situation in the sales industry. And, for the same three reasons that you listed above.
There's a certain comfort level in staying with what you know, especially when your unemployed. That's stressful enough, but then to ask yourself to pile on more stress by changing industries and leaving what you know?...that's too much for some people.
Great post, Jam. I think I'll touch on this over at LandingTheDeal.com from the sales side.
