Call Center Jobs. There are three main categories:
- Call Center Agent - also called CSR (Customer Service Representative), TSR (Telemarketing Service Representative).
- Call Center Management
- Call Center Support Services
Agents are generally hired on a per hour basis, though sometimes aggressive sales-oriented Telemarketing companies try to hire on a pure commission basis. It is seldom that you see an agent that is getting a salary, unless he or she is working for an in-house call center.
Call Center employment for managers generally falls into two categories as well. Floor and operations management and corporate management. You will often find the shift supervisor or trainer or quality assurance personnel working on an hourly rate. On the other hand, the Operations Manager and Account Management will generally be salaried positions. On the corporate management side, you will find primarily salaried postions, for the CEO, CFO, and other senior management positions.
There are a number of call center jobs for those who have never had any experience with a call center before as part of the support staff. These might include positions in the IS department, the Sales and Marketing department, the accounting department, orthe facilities management department. Positions here are often mixed between hourly and salaried.
When I ran my call center, we became one of the top 10 employers in our city. We poured a lot of money into the local economy, we hired over 10,000 part time workers (mostly college kids) over the decade we ran the company. Call centers are a great addition to a labor market to help overall employment figures, as they often soak up a lot of marginal and partial unemployment excesses.
