From my experience, agents usually really want to help people. Often they are frustrated by management who create all sorts of restrictions or who do not adequately empower them to help their customers.
Over the years, I have heard a number of stories of agents calling a person's home just at the right moment to help some one out in an emergency. I came across this story that reminded me how agents are almost always eager to help.
Telemarketers Aren’t All Bad
Just ask the nearly frozen 85-year old man who had fallen near his home in rural Illinois last week who received help from a telemarketer who had randomly called his home.
According to a December 29 AP story, a random call from Crystal Rozell, a call center employee with Consumer Direct Marketing in Saratoga Springs, NY on Dec. 22 was answered by the man, who said he was hurt and asked for help.
The man, who lives in Ridott, IL, had fallen near his home the previous night and spent the entire night outside, said Stevenson County Sheriff David Snyders, who was in charge of the case in Illinois. The man managed to crawl back into the house in the morning, but his phone could not make outgoing calls, Snyders said.
Rozell’s call was the first he received that day.
The telemarketer contacted the police and the man was taken to a local hospital.
