With election day upon us, it is time for all those Dirty Tactics to raise their ugly heads in the heated fight to win the election. I wrote before about the pernicious "Push Pull" tactics. Here are some other dirty tactics that are going on:
In the race for Virginia Governor:
An automated broadcast is being made by Honest Leadership for Virginia, which supports the election of conservative Republican candidates in the state of Virginia, including 2005 gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore.
Tim Kaine is the Democratic candidate. The broadcast, sponsored by Honest Leadership for Virginia, begins with this recorded message:
“I’m Tim Kaine and I want you to know where I stand on the issues.”
So, how is this Republican support group broadcasting quotes from Tim Kane, the opponent to the candidate that they support? The question is asked by Kaine supporters is:
Isn’t that a bit strange, at the minimum? Illegal? That’s up to the State Board of Elections to determine, along with possible civil and/or criminal penalties.
Jeff questions the ethics of why politicians aren't held to the same Do Not Call legislation that commercial companies are held to and are allowed free access to call anyone.
There seems to be a heavy campaign going on in California about the propositions supported by the Governor there. Here are some comments:
Ah, to be living in California just before Arnold's special election. Just got a call from what appeared to be either a Republican-sponsored poll or a Republican-sponsored push poll. I was read descriptions of the four Arnold-supported state propositions, each description was largely positive. As you might guess, I politely informed the guy that I would be voting No on all of Arnold's propositions. No questions on the non-Arnold props. I was asked how I described myself, and I said "I'm a moderate white guy who doesn't like Arnold." And that's the truth.
Reese seemed to get a similar call on the California propositions.
Here are some others from around the country.
A push poll in Colorado.
In a mayor's race in Buffalo, NY.
A poll about immigration.
